It's Okay to Ask for Help - Meet Our Intern Kyra!•

"You get in life what you have the courage to ask for." - Oprah Winfrey
Running a business is a lot of hard work. Whether it's managing the social media, creating new marketing strategies, maintaining the finances, or handling everything in between, when a business is in full operation, it can feel like your to-do list has no end. And while it may be too much to maneuver at times, we entrepreneurs still try to do everything ourselves. I'm talking ALL of it. Even in areas where we lack talent: umm...filing small business taxes, anyone???
And if we are already aware of doing “all the things”, why are we so scared to ask for help? I think for many of us, asking for help makes us feel vulnerable. We believe it makes us look weak, or it gives off the impression that we can't handle things alone. Even harder still, enlisting help means we have to release some control, and that can feel super scary.
Contrary to our beliefs, asking for help is a crucial step in growing a business. Adding another member to the team means adding fresh ideas, valuable insight, and new perspective. It means handing over a bit of the reins so that we have more time to focus on other parts of the business that need more attention.
Here at Sweet On You Boutique, we recognize the need for, and greatly appreciate, top-notch help to grow our brand. That is why, I am happy to announce that our Sweet On You Boutique team has increased by one. Drum roll, please. Everyone, please meet (long dramatic pause) Kyra!! (loud cheers and confetti toss). Kyra is our Social Media Marketing Intern for the rest of the year. She will be handling our social media pages, like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest, as well as our influencer outreach. She’ll even support website graphics and content. As many of you know, I work a regular job while building my boutique on the side. Having Kyra is going to be such a huge help for me and the business! But enough about me, let's learn more about Kyra!
Q1: How old are you?
A: I’m currently 20 years old, but I'll be turning 21 in October!
Q2: What college do you attend?
A: I am an upcoming Junior at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Q3: What are you studying?
A: I am an Advertising major with a concentration in Copywriting. When I say copywriting people always think legal, like having the rights to something. But, it’s actually writing TV/Radio scripts, any text that you see on ads in magazines or billboards, and it can also include copy on websites, social media captions, etc. I don’t know exactly what I want to do after college, but I’ve dabbled in a few routes I can take—traditional copywriting at an agency (think Peggy Olsen in Mad Men), Pharmaceutical Advertising, which is really big in Philly, and social media marketing, which I’m currently loving right now. :)
Q4: What do you like to do for fun?
A: During my breaks from school, I binge read. I love YA (Young Adults) and historical fiction books. I also really enjoy watching TV and movies (but who doesn’t?). I don’t like comedies though, I’m more of a drama kind-of-gal. My favorite show of all time is Mad Men (what a surprise as an Advertising major!), but this summer I watched Big Little Lies, Euphoria, and The Handmaid’s Tale. I highly recommend them all. As for movies, I will always see every Marvel movie in the theater, and the same goes for Star Wars (I’m low-key a nerd lol). I also write my own song lyrics, but I can’t play an instrument. So, they’ll never see the light of day (can I insert a shrug emoji?!) Finally, I obviously love clothes. My closet is my pride and joy, my clothes are my children (LOL). I’m obsessed with the 50’s-70’s and love clothes that are unique and retro-inspired. My goal in life is to retire to a mid-century modern house in Palm Springs.
Q5: If you could describe your style in 3 words, what would they be?
A: Unique, Vintage-Inspired, and Colorful.
Q6: What’s your favorite empowering quote?
A: “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” – Oprah Winfrey
Q7: What’s your favorite piece from Sweet On You Boutique?
A: The embroidered leather jacket and drawstring jeans are in a tie for my favorites. I’m obsessed.
Q8: What’s your favorite thing about Sweet On You Boutique?
A: I love that it’s on trend but also has pieces that put a twist on what you see everyone else wearing. And that the brand is all about empowering women. We need more brands like that in the world of fashion.
Q9: Where can others connect with you?

In short, asking for help isn't a bad thing. If you never build up the courage to ask for help, you'll never know how much value can be added to your business. So, welcome Kyra! We are so incredibly happy that you are part of this team, and we can't wait to see what we can accomplish together!
